Catching The Light

My painting is an expression of beauty of life and freedom. My inspirations come from my surroundings: gardens, California’s wildflowers, trees, sunshine, wind, clouds, and tides. All of these drive me to seek how they interact.

I have focused on the theme of flowers for many years. My intention in capturing these forms, compositions, and movements between light and shadow, is to integrate my memories and imagination onto canvas. In my flower series, I explore form, texture, color and light in a style of freehand that is unique.

I usually paint in a certain hue, then rework and re-layer with brush strokes and textures to create paneled surfaces, where the objects, light and air often meld into one; colors disperse with warmth diffusing into the background. The process is full of the possibilities for playfulness of art.
